REACHING Net zero NO LATER THAN 2040

Stuttgart Airport is taking decisive steps for climate protection. In line with the fairport mission, the airport is striving to become one of the enduringly best-performing and most sustainable airports in Europe. From this, the airport has derived its climate strategy Destination STRzero. STR acts on the following seven principles to protect the planet:

MOVING FORWARD WITH RENEWABLES

  • Masterplan Energy & Climate sets high efficiency standards and targets for expanding renewable energies
  • systematic reduction of energy consumption
  • solar airport: tenfold power yield from photovoltaics by 2040, production on all suitable space on site
  • no use of fossil fuels for heat supply of new buildings
Masterplan Energie und Klima (in German)

Sustainable mobility as a driver

  • avoid fossil fuels
  • switch to electric vehicle fleet
  • best possible connections by public transport
  • minimise parking space extension
  • business trips as climate-friendly as possible

BUILDING A SUSTAINABLE AIRPORT

  • accreditation by applicable sustainability standards for buildings
  • building up a smart grid to support the energy transition
  • energy-saving design of rental spaces

ACCELERATING ZERO EMISSION FLIGHTS

  • advance technological progress
  • help realise the vision of emission-free flying
  • airport charges incentivise sustainable aviation fuel and electric aircraft
  • raise passenger awareness for climate-conscious travel

Investing in carbon-optimised projects

  • investing in lower-emission technologies
  • carbon pricing for project decisions

ACHIEVING STRZERO TOGETHER

  • actively engaged employees
  • all stakeholders involved
