Mobility level - international classifications
To enable the airline to organize suitable assistance, the degree of mobility should be specified at the time of booking. In this way, the necessary assistance can be organized in good time.
The following international abbreviations help to classify the level of assistance required:
- WCHC (Wheelchair Cabin Seat): Passengers travel in their own wheelchairs. The wheelchair is required for the entire journey - even on board it is not possible to move around without assistance.
- WCHS (Wheelchair Steps): Climbing stairs is not possible, but short distances on foot are feasible.
- WCHR (Wheelchair Ramp): A wheelchair is only required for longer distances. Climbing stairs independently is possible.
- BLND: For blind or visually impaired travelers.
- DEAF: For deaf, hard of hearing or deaf-mute travelers.
- DEAF-BLND: For passengers with a combined visual and hearing impairment.
- DPNA (Disabled Passenger with Intellectual or Developmental Disability Needing Assistance): For people with cognitive impairments - for example, travelers with dementia who are traveling alone
