If you book a specific time slot for security screening, you can go straight to the Smart Lane in Terminal 1 – it’s well signposted and easy to find. This saves you from long queues.

The Smart Lane is open daily from 4 am to 7 pm.

Security check at STR

To ensure everyone has a safe journey, every passenger is screened before departure – quickly, thoroughly and professionally. It’s best to choose the security checkpoint with the shortest queue. Current waiting times are displayed on the monitors at the airport and online. All routes at Stuttgart Airport are short. This means that all gates are easily accessible from every security checkpoint.

Important: Passengers with pacemakers should please speak to our staff before going through security.

Allow plenty of time to ensure the start goes smoothly

We recommend arriving at the airport around 2 hours before your flight, but at least 90 minutes before security. That way, you’ll have plenty of time.

Hand luggage – screening with CT scanners

The security checkpoints in Terminal 1 are fully equipped with computed tomography (CT) scanners, whilst those in Terminal 3 are partially equipped. The scanners enable precise screening of hand luggage; electronic devices and liquids can remain in hand luggage during this process. This technology helps to make the processes at the security checkpoints more efficient.

Good to know: Not all security lanes are currently equipped with this technology. You may be directed to a security lane without a CT scanner, or all lanes with CT scanners may be temporarily out of service.
At security lanes without CT technology, the 100 ml rule for carrying liquids still applies. These must be screened separately, as must electronic devices.

To ensure everyone is well prepared for security screening, it is advisable to pack your hand luggage accordingly and to observe the applicable regulations – for the smoothest possible start to your journey!

1. Filling the trays: Everything must be placed on the conveyor belt

At the security checkpoint, please place all bags and personal items into the trays. Each person may use as many trays as required.

Please empty your trouser pockets completely – including small items such as coins, keys or tissues.
Please remove your belt, if there is no reason not to, and take off any jewellery where possible.
Place electronic devices such as mobile phones or laptops in a separate tray – unless a CT scanner is available.
Please also place liquids in a 1-litre bag separately into a tray – unless a CT scanner is available.

2. Security scanner: Does it beep?

Once all items are in the tray, each person is asked to walk through the security scanner one by one. If the scanner beeps, a follow-up check will be carried out. Simply follow the instructions of the security staff – that way, everything will run quickly and smoothly.

3. Follow-up check: Better safe than sorry

Body search: If the scanner sets off an alarm, security staff will carry out a brief pat-down – respectfully and professionally.

Luggage check: If there are any concerns regarding your hand luggage, you will be asked to open it. You must not touch your luggage whilst it is being checked.

Explosives screening: Explosives screening is carried out where there is suspicion or on a random basis. In this case, it is important to follow the security staff’s instructions carefully.
