Allow sufficient time so that the start remains relaxed
We recommend arriving at the airport approximately 2 hours before departure, but at least 90 minutes before security check-in. That leaves enough time for that.
Good to know: Only one piece of carry-on baggage is allowed per person.

Smart Lane
Book a time slot for the security checks
If you book a specific time slot for security checks, you can go directly to the Smart Lane in Terminal 2 – it is well signposted and easy to find. This saves you long waiting times.
To ensure that everyone takes off safely, each person is checked before departure – quickly, thoroughly and routinely. It is best to simply select the checkpoint that is quickest to reach. The current waiting times are displayed on the monitors on site and online. All distances at Stuttgart Airport are short. This means that all gates are easily accessible from every checkpoint.
Important for people with pacemakers: Please inform our staff before the check.
1. Fill trays: everything must go onto the conveyor belt
Please place all bags and items in the trays at the security checkpoint. Each passenger can use as many trays as they need.
Please empty your pockets completely – including small items such as coins, keys or handkerchiefs.
Remove belts and jewellery, if possible.
Place electronic devices such as mobile phones or laptops in a separate tray.
Place liquids in 1-litre bags separately in a tray.
Questions about specific items? Our team is happy to help – for example, with children’s toys, cameras or drones.
Once all items are in the tray, each passenger is asked to walk through the security scanner individually. If a beeping sounds, a follow-up check is performed. Simply follow the instructions of the security staff to ensure that everything runs quickly and smoothly.
3. Follow-up check: better safe than sorry
Identity checks: If the scanner beeps, security personnel will conduct a brief pat-down – respectfully and professionally.
Baggage inspection: If there is any uncertainty regarding carry-on baggage, you will be asked to open it. During the inspection, the passenger must not touch their baggage.
Explosives checks: If we suspect the presence of explosives or simply wish to carry out random checks, we will conduct explosives checks. In this case, it is important to follow the instructions of the security personnel exactly.
