Short distances to the terminal

Whether by car, S-Bahn or bus – the airport is easily accessible from everywhere, with short distances to all terminals.

The screens at the entrances to Terminals 1 and 3, as well as at the S-Bahn exits, show which terminal your flight’s check-in desk is located in. Alternatively, the team at the information desk in Terminal 3 (departures level) will be happy to help. All levels are directly connected to one another.

The journey to your flight

To ensure everything runs smoothly, it is important to arrive at the airline’s check-in desk 2 to 3 hours before departure. The recommended time is also stated in the information passengers receive after purchasing their ticket.

At the airline’s check-in desk, you will need your flight ticket and your passport or identity card. Once you have checked in your luggage there, you will receive:

If required, a boarding pass showing the gate and seat number
A receipt for checked-in luggage

Priority check-in

Check in quickly and stress-free

Many airlines offer priority check-in. This is a specially marked counter where eligible passengers can check in more quickly – without long queues.

Who can use priority check-in?

Eligibility depends on the specific flight ticket or passenger status. For example:

First or Business Class ticket
Frequent flyer status or certain credit cards
As a bookable extra or included in selected fares

To the gate and boarding

After check-in, proceed to the gate. The gate number is shown on your boarding pass and is also displayed on the information boards and at the information kiosks. You should be at the gate by the specified boarding time at the latest.

Tip: Allow plenty of time for security and identity checks. We recommend keeping your travel documents, such as your ID, boarding pass and flight ticket, to hand. Passengers should also pay attention to public address announcements and the display boards.

Online check-in

Many airlines offer online check-in. This saves valuable time before departure and makes the start of your journey much more relaxed.

Good to know: Online check-in is usually available 24 to 48 hours before departure – depending on the airline.

If you check in online in advance, you can choose your seats in good time and go straight to security when you arrive, provided you’re only travelling with hand luggage. If you have hold luggage, use the Self Bag Drop counters. If this service isn’t available for your destination, hand in your suitcases at the check-in counter. Note: Check with the airline.

Tip: Save your boarding pass on your smartphone – that way, it’s quickly to hand at security and when boarding, and you save on paper.

About the airlines

Self-service check-in machines

If you’re travelling with Aegean, Turkish Airlines, Eurowings, Air France, KLM or Condor, you can use the electronic check-in kiosks. This saves time and is particularly handy for anyone travelling without any documents that need checking.

Good to know: The self-service check-in kiosks are intuitive to use and guide you through the process step by step.

Tip: If you have any questions, you can contact the on-site service staff at any time. They’ll be happy to help.

Evening-before check-in

Some airlines offer the evening-before check-in service at Stuttgart Airport – a handy service to make your departure day more relaxed. Travellers can check in their luggage and receive their boarding pass with their seat allocation the evening before. All they need to do is bring their flight ticket and ID to the check-in desk.

Good to know

At Stuttgart Airport, only Eurowings and Condor offer this service. Information on how to use the service and the fees involved is available from the airlines
Check-in the evening before is often not possible for bulky luggage or sporting firearms.
Certain destinations may also be excluded from this service.

Tip: If you use the night-before check-in, you should still allow plenty of time for security screening on the day of travel and arrive at least 90 minutes before departure.

Self Bag Drop

Self Bag Drop is a service that allows travellers to check in their luggage themselves at designated points, saving time. Selected airlines offer this alternative to traditional baggage drop-off at the counter.

Location and use

The Self Bag Drop points are located in Terminal 3, Departures, at counters 320 to 329.

Important: If you have bulky luggage, you must first go to the check-in counter and then to the bulky luggage counter. You cannot use the Self Bag Drop service in this case.

Tip: The Self Bag Drop stations are designed to be user-friendly. If you’re using the service for the first time and need assistance, there are usually members of staff on hand to help with any queries.
