You would like to fly on vacation.

Here you will find important information.

Then your trip will get off to a good start.

Get to the airport early

There is a lot going on in the morning and afternoon.

This is when many people have to go through security.

Everything takes longer then.

So get to the airport early.

At least 2 hours before departure.

But no earlier than 3 hours.

Go to the security checkpoint 90 minutes before departure.

Even if it is less busy.

Have your documents ready

What you need for the trip:

  • ID
  • Flight ticket

Have both in your bag.

Then you can get the documents out quickly.

It's quicker that way.

You can book a fixed time for a check-up

You can book a fixed appointment online.

When you are going to the safety check.

The offer is called: Smart Lane.

How to get to the airport

You can come by bus.

Or by train.

Are you coming to the airport by train?

Then you can take the S-Bahn to the airport.

You can also take the U6 light rail.

Both trains stop directly at the airport.

Important: There are sometimes changes to the timetable.

Check with the VVS in advance.

VVS stands for Verkehrsverbund Stuttgart.

Someone can also take you by car.

There is a "Kiss & Fly" area in front of the airport.

Cars can stop there for 8 minutes free of charge.

Or you can book a parking space.

For example, parking lot P0.

The first hour there is free of charge.

The day of your trip: How to plan well

  • Check: Is your flight on time?
  • Allow enough time to walk around the airport
  • Arrive 2 hours before departure
  • The counters open 2 to 3 hours before departure
  • Book a seat in the Smart Lane
  • Go to the security checkpoint 90 minutes before departure
  • Go to the gate at least 45 minutes before departure

Security check and hand luggage

Observe the rules for hand luggage.

Only take what is permitted.

Liquids must be placed in a transparent bag.

Each liquid must not exceed 100 milliliters.

The bag may be 1 liter in size.

If possible, bring only 1 piece of hand luggage.

Look at the displays at the airport.

It will say: Where is your gate?

Register and drop off your suitcase

Before your flight, you must register for your flight.

This registration is called check-in.

This is how it is pronounced: Check in.


You can check in online beforehand.

Or you can check in the evening before your flight.

You can also check in at the airport.

You can do this at the counter or at a machine.

You will then receive your boarding card.

The boarding card is your ticket for the aircraft.


Hand in your bag at a machine.

The machine will say "Self Bag Drop".

You drop your bag there yourself.

Have your ID and documents ready.

Do you have large luggage?

This is called bulky baggage.

This is special baggage.

You will need more time to drop it off.

You can also use a luggage trolley or a carry-on service.

  1. Check your bus or train connections.
  2. Be aware of any closures on the S-Bahn and U6 light rail.
  3. Book your parking space early.

  • Print your travel documents at the information desk in Terminal 3
  • Go shopping or eat out
  • There is a play area for children. It is called SkyLand. It's pronounced like this: Skai-land.

Before the trip: Check everything important

  • Is your passport still valid?
  • Do you need a visa for your vacation destination?
  • Do you have a driver's license for your vacation destination?
  • Do you have travel insurance?
  • Do you need vaccinations or a medical test?
  • Make copies of all important documents
  • Follow the rules of your airline
