Smart Lane
Smart Lane is an English term.
Translated literally, it means ‘intelligent lane’.
It is pronounced: Smart Le-in.
The Smart Lane is a fast way through security at the airport.
Only people with an appointment are allowed to use it.
That’s why there’s often less waiting time.
It’s quicker and more convenient.
CT scanner
CT is short for computed tomography.
It is pronounced: ‘Cee-Tee-scanner’.
A CT scanner is a special piece of equipment used at security checkpoints.
The machine scans hand luggage.
To do this, the machine takes images of the contents.
This enables staff to inspect the luggage more thoroughly.
Electronic devices and liquids do not need to be removed from hand luggage.
The CT scanner helps to ensure a quick and secure security check.
Kiss & Fly
Kiss & Fly is an English term.
Literally translated, it means ‘kiss and fly’.
This is how you pronounce it: ‘Kiss änd Flai’.
Kiss & Fly is an area in front of the airport.
You can drop off someone who is flying out there.
Or someone can drop you off there before your journey.
You’re allowed to stop there for 8 minutes free of charge.
The barrier opens automatically.
You do not need a ticket.
If you stay longer than 8 minutes, you’ll be charged.
You can then pay by debit or credit card.
You can also pay at the pay-on-use machine using coins and notes.
Gate
‘Gate’ is an English word.
It means ‘gate’.
It is pronounced: ‘Gäit’.
A gate is a waiting area at the airport.
That’s where you board the aeroplane.
Your boarding pass shows the gate number.
Keep an eye on the displays in the airport.
They’ll tell you which gate you need to go to.
Car-sharing
Car-sharing is an English term.
It means sharing a car.
This is how you pronounce it: kar-shä-ring.
Car-sharing means: you share a car with others.
You can hire the car for a short time.
There are special parking spaces for car-sharing at the airport.
You can find the providers on the airport’s website.
Terminal
Terminal is an English word.
It is pronounced: Tör-mi-nell.
A terminal is a part of an airport building.
This is where you arrive or depart.
Inside the terminal, there are check-in desks, security checks, shops and gates.
Stuttgart Airport has several terminals.
Oversized luggage
Bulky luggage is large or special luggage.
For example:
- a pushchair
- a bicycle
- a surfboard
- a golf bag
- a pet in a carrier
Would you like to check in bulky items?
Then you’ll need to allow more time for this at the airport.
At Stuttgart Airport, you can drop off bulky items in Terminal 4.
This is to the right of the security checkpoint.
Tip: Check with your airline or travel agent beforehand.
