Test the departure route
Goals: Reduce kerosene consumption and noise pollution
From February 23, 2023 to February 22, 2024, a test operation for a new departure route TEDGO new from Stuttgart Airport ran. German air traffic control tested a modified flight route together with the airlines. On average, this involved a maximum of 2 take-offs per hour - initially for a period of one year.
Background: The departure route on the eastern runway was adjusted to the south. The aim of such changes is usually to reduce kerosene consumption and minimize noise pollution for local residents. The following applies: what means less noise for some can lead to more aircraft noise for others.
In the densely populated Neckar Valley, fewer aircraft movements were heard overall during the test period. The new route, called TEDGO new, is shorter and passes Wolfschlugen, Nürtingen-Hardt and Oberensingen, among others.
Recommendations for new flight routes come from the Aircraft Noise Commission. This committee exists at all airports with noise protection areas - including Stuttgart Airport. The commission advises German air traffic control on the development and evaluation of flight routes and procedures. German Air Traffic Control and the Federal Supervisory Authority for Air Traffic Control decide on the permanent introduction of new routes.
