Airport Fire Service Staff
The Stuttgart Airport Fire Service currently has 126 full-time firefighters. To ensure that operations run smoothly at all times, two watch teams work in rotation on a 24-hour cycle.
Minimum staffing levels per 24-hour shift:
19 firefighters at the East Fire Station and 7 firefighters at the West Fire Station – including an on-duty incident commander – are on duty at all times.

A wide range of activities – an overview
Aircraft fire protection: Ensuring aircraft fire protection in accordance with applicable ICAO guidelines (ICAO = International Civil Aviation Organisation for Category 10)
Technical assistance in the event of aircraft accidents: responding to fuel leaks, hazardous materials incidents or for the recovery of aircraft
Building fire protection and technical assistance: Responsible for the entire airport area – as a recognised in-house fire service in accordance with Section 19 of the Baden-Württemberg Fire Service Act
Operation of a fire and rescue control centre (Safety)
Emergency medical service: Emergency medical assistance, first aid and preparation for special operational situations – such as a mass casualty incident (MANV)
First-aid station: On-site first-aid service in accordance with UVV/GUV guidelines
Support for other specialist departments: Services for internal and external clients – e.g. using turntable ladders, crane lorries, and training in fire safety or first aid
Aircraft Recovery Training Centre: International training centre for specialist aircraft recovery teams
Aircraft Recovery: Operations at other airports too – where required, to support and carry out recovery operations
Training Centre: Training for other fire brigades and emergency services – including respiratory protection training and work placements in the emergency medical services (training ambulance station)
Winter maintenance: Support with snow clearance and de-icing on the airport grounds
