FAQ for students and school pupils

At the end of the school year in Baden-Württemberg, we publish our apprenticeship and degree programmes starting the following September.

Then it’s time to apply, get started and discover the world of the airport!

Our selection processes for apprenticeship places and dual study programmes begin from mid-September. We’ll send out the invitations about two to three weeks beforehand.

Please don’t be surprised if it takes a while after you’ve received your confirmation of application – especially during the holiday period. Important to note: not hearing from us does not mean you’ve been rejected. 

If an apprenticeship or degree programme is no longer listed online, all places have been filled. Our job advertisements remain active only for as long as applications are still being accepted.

Unfortunately, we do not currently offer pre-apprenticeship placements. Our focus is very much on providing high-quality support to our apprentices and dual-study students – so that they can get off to the best possible start in their careers.

At present, we are unable to offer any practical training placements at Stuttgart Airport as part of our retraining programmes. The available capacity is fully reserved for the supervision of our apprentices and dual-study students.

We do not currently offer an introductory qualification year. Our focus is on in-depth vocational training and dual study programmes.

As part of the school’s career guidance programme (BOGY/BORS), we offer an insight into our technical apprenticeship programmes:

• Electronics Technician for Industrial Engineering (m/f/d)
• IT Specialist for Systems Integration (m/f/d)
• Automotive mechatronics technician specialising in systems and high-voltage technology (m/f/d)
• Mechatronics Technician (m/f/d)

We do not currently offer commercial school work placements. Available work placement opportunities are published on our careers page.

Please note: We do not have any information regarding work placements at other companies at Stuttgart Airport.

Applications can only be submitted via our online application portal. Please include the following documents:

• CV
• Your last two school reports
• A short cover letter stating your preferred start date and reasons for applying
• For applicants under 18: a parental consent form for data processing

The school work placement lasts one week. The online application portal lists the weeks during which a work placement is available for each apprenticeship programme. We are unable to offer placements during any other periods.

A school work experience placement at Stuttgart Airport is usually available from Year 8 onwards.

If it is a compulsory school work experience placement as part of the school’s career guidance programme, the placement may take place even earlier.

A rejection does not mean you are ruled out for the future. You can apply again at a later date – simply submit your application once more via our online application portal .

Flughafen Stuttgart GmbH is responsible for the airport’s infrastructure – not for flight operations themselves.

Pilots and cabin crew are employed by the airlines, whilst air traffic controllers are employed by Deutsche Flugsicherung.

Tip: If you’re interested in an internship in these roles, it’s best to enquire directly with the relevant companies.

Unfortunately, we do not offer work experience placements to help you choose a career. We do, however, offer opportunities to gain an insight into our work as part of the BOGY or BORS programmes whilst you are still at school – or later on as a work placement semester during your degree course.

We focus on compulsory work placements as part of a degree programme. Voluntary work placements are generally possible – however, we give priority to applications for compulsory work placements.

Ideally 6 months – this allows you to gain in-depth insights and manage projects independently. In justified exceptional cases, the placement may be shortened to 5 months. The placement usually begins in March or September.

No problem – we welcome unsolicited applications!

Simply upload your documents and specify your preferred area of work. We’ll assess each application individually to see if there’s a suitable opportunity.

In principle, this is possible – subject to the following conditions:

• You have already completed an internship with us

or

• you have a proposed topic that is relevant to a specialist department and has met with interest there.

Please note: The assessment may take some time, as several departments may be involved.

For students undertaking their work placement at STR, we offer rooms in our halls of residence – close to the action and within easy reach of the workplace.

Applications must be submitted exclusively via our online application portal.

For data protection reasons, please do not send any documents by email.

• CV
• Your last two school reports
• A covering letter explaining your motivation
• Optional: further supporting documents or certificates

The application period for apprenticeship and degree places usually begins at the start of the summer holidays in Baden-Württemberg – that is, around one year before the start of the academic year in September. You can find all vacancies on our careers page.

We advertise school work experience placements (e.g. BOGY/BORS) subject to availability.

Once you have submitted your application, we will review your documents carefully. We will liaise closely with the relevant departments during this process.

Important to note: If we receive a large number of applications, this may take some time. Thank you for your patience – we give every application the attention it deserves.

For apprenticeships and dual study programmes:

• Following a review of applications, we invite suitable candidates to a group selection process (assessment centre) lasting approximately 4 to 5 hours.
• Contents: self-presentation, written test and practical exercises
• Afterwards: feedback by telephone and information on whether you have made it onto the shortlist
• If the feedback is positive, this will be followed by a face-to-face interview at our airport.

For a compulsory student placement:

• Those who impress us on paper will be invited to a face-to-face interview.
• This will be attended by colleagues from the relevant department as well as a representative from the HR department.
• Aim: to work out together whether we’re a good fit for one another
  

• Complete, accurate, up to date: Make sure your documents are complete – and, most importantly, that your contact details are up to date.
• Show what makes you stand out: commitment, certificates, special skills? We’d love to see them! They add depth to your profile.
• Be yourself: It’s important to us that we get to know the real you. We value openness, authenticity and getting to know each other as equals.
• Tip: Be curious, ask questions – and think about which path suits you best. Together, we’ll find out.
