Neighbourhood, participation and social responsibility
Stuttgart Airport is connected globally – yet firmly rooted in Baden-Württemberg. As a good neighbour, the airport is committed to the common good of the region and to fostering good relations.
Socially committed, open and transparent: the interests of the local community are taken into account in key decisions. The airport provides information about its activities and maintains an ongoing dialogue – with neighbours, its customers, business partners, public authorities and other local groups.
People are at the heart of fairport’s mission statement. The aim is to create tangible added value for employees, people in the region and passengers. An important aspect of this is the barrier-free design of the website – so that all content and services are easily accessible. The various offers for air travellers with reduced mobility also play a central role. Both are important steps on the way to an airport for everyone.

A true fairport success story: since 2013, the ‘Donate Your Bottle Deposit’ initiative has been part of everyday life in the terminals at Stuttgart Airport – and remains popular to this day. Stuttgart Airport was the first in Germany to team up with the street newspaper Trott-war e.V. to encourage people to hand in empty returnable bottles for a good cause. The idea has since been adopted by many other airports.
The deposit donations help to create several permanent jobs for people who are finding it difficult to get back into work. The project was developed by students from the Enactus organisation at the University of Hohenheim. It is also supported by Der Grüne Punkt.
The Airport Chaplaincy service is a joint initiative of the Evangelical Regional Church in Württemberg and the Diocese of Rottenburg-Stuttgart. A deaconess, a deacon and many volunteers are on hand in the terminal itself – for anyone seeking support during difficult times.
Whether you’re a passenger, a visitor or a member of staff: anyone who needs someone to talk to will find a sympathetic ear here.
A special place is the Room of Silence in the public area of Terminal 3, Arrivals. It is open to people of all faiths – as a place of retreat, to pause for a moment or to say a prayer.
Flying has an impact on the climate. Our website provides information on the climate impact of air travel, ways to reduce emissions, and voluntary carbon offset contibutions. We also explain which technologies might be used in the future.
The aim is to provide travellers with information on the impact of travel on the climate and to highlight options for taking action.
Stuttgart Airport is an integral part of the region – and plays an active role in the local community. The airport is particularly committed to grassroots sport, supporting children’s and youth teams in neighbouring communities. It provides support for the teams themselves as well as for local club events.
The aim: to foster a sense of community and enable young people to take part in sport and develop team spirit.
