Hygiene measures

Who is required to wear a mask?

Masks are compulsory during the entire stay on the airport premises:

  • Medical masks are required in indoor and outdoor public areas on the premises of Stuttgart Airport. The following standards are permitted: surgical masks (DIN EN 14683:2019-10), FFP2 (DIN EN 149:2001) or KN95/N95/KF94/KF99 masks.
  • Children under 6 years of age are not required to wear masks.

Exceptions are possible – please refer to the regulations on compulsory masks in Baden-Württemberg. The general decree of the Esslingen district also applies.

Do children need to wear a face mask?

Children from 6 years must wear a medical mask. The following standards are permitted: surgical masks (DIN EN 14683:2019-10), FFP2 (DIN EN 149:2001) or KN95/N95/KF94/KF99 masks.

Can I also use a face visor as a mask?

No. According to the Corona Ordinance of the State of Baden-Württemberg, face visors are not considered an adequate substitute for mouth-nose covers or medical masks. They can only be used as an additional measure. Therefore, medical masks are required in indoor and outdoor public areas on the premises of Stuttgart Airport. The following standards are permitted: surgical masks (DIN EN 14683:2019-10), FFP2 (DIN EN 149:2001) or KN95/N95/KF94/KF99 masks.

Do I need a certificate if I cannot wear a mask?

Yes, a certificate is required. It should be carried along and presented when requested.

How can I protect myself in situations where distance to others cannot be kept?

Inside airport buildings, both travellers and employees must wear a medical mask. This applies especially if the minimum distance of 1.5 metres cannot be maintained continuously or if no other protective measures such as separating panels are available.

How is security screening currently carried out, in terms of social distancing and hygiene measures?

Keeping your distance to others and paying attention to signs and floor markings also applies at the security checkpoints. The contents of your pockets and smaller items, such as your mobile phone, should be stowed in your hand luggage or jacket. Please wear a medical mask during security screening as well and only take it off when requested.

How many pieces of hand luggage am I currently allowed to take with me?

Only one piece of hand luggage (hand luggage + personal item, e.g. handbag, laptop case) is temporarily allowed at the security check. In addition, airlines have established their own regulations for handling carry-ons. Please check with your airline directly regarding these rules.

Should I expect longer wait times due to the current situation?

Due to additional regulations regarding Covid-19, longer wait times may occur. Please allow sufficient time in the current situation as well.

Who can I contact in the terminal if I have additional questions?

The information desks in terminal 3 is open from 6 am to 8 pm. In addition, the call centre can be reached from 5 am to 10 pm: +49 711 948-0.

What do I have to consider when travelling during the pandemic?

The German government has compiled information for travellers and commuters. Special rules may apply for travellers who have been vaccinated or have recovered from Covid-19. Please inform yourself in advance.

What restrictions and regulations apply at my destination?

Before travelling abroad, please check the information of your destination country regarding entry and test requirements. The regulations of the German Foreign Office apply. Passengers whose test does not fulfill the respective requirements will be rejected at the gate.

What are the current entry requirements?

Since 30 March 2021, all persons travelling to Germany by air must present a negative Covid-19 test result before embarking on their journey. The test must be done abroad no more than 48 hours before entry.

When entering Germany from abroad, please also observe the entry and quarantine regulations for your destination state.

Furthermore, please note the currently valid nightly curfew when travelling from/to the airport.

Are risk areas categorized into different types?

Yes, there are 2 types of risk areas. Passengers are thus urged to observe the relevant entry and quarantine regulations, as well as the compulsory testing in the destination state, before travelling to Germany.

When do I have to self-isolate?

When entering Germany from abroad, please observe the country-specific entry quarantine regulations of your destination federal state as well as the generally applicable regulations for entering Germany by air. Special rules may apply for travellers who have been vaccinated or have recovered from Covid-19. Please inform yourself in advance.

Can I skip quarantine if I test negative for Covid-19 or have been vaccinated or have recovered?

Can I be tested for Covid-19 at the airport?

The test centre at the airport offer various testing options. Please refer to our Corona Test Centre page for more information.

Which vaccination certificate is accepted at the airport?

In addition to the vaccination certificate, you can also present a digital proof of vaccination with the Corona-Warn-App or the CovPass app as verification of vaccination at check-in. The EU Covid-19 Vaccination Certificate is also valid as proof.

Can I get the digital proof of vaccination at the airport?

The Aeroatoll airport pharmacy can issue a digital proof of vaccination when you present your vaccination certificate and identification document. This may take some time depending on the number of requests.
